The term inbound logistics <\/strong>covers all areas of a supply chain that serve to provide the necessary resources in sufficient quantities, at the right place and at the right time. These resources include, for example, raw materials, operating materials and components, but also finished products and spare parts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n \r\n

In short, the purpose of inbound logistics is to ensure that a company has all the resources it needs to manufacture or sell its products. This may sound simple, but in practice it poses a number of challenges. These range from correctly forecasting demand to managing incoming goods and organizing the flow of goods.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n \r\n

Procurement and production logistics<\/h2>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/div>\r\n \n\n \r\n

All of these complex processes are part of the two sub-areas of inbound logistics<\/strong>: procurement logistics and production logistics. Both are essential parts of a complete supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Procurement logistics<\/a><\/strong> includes all processes that are necessary to ensure that the required materials are supplied on time and in the required quantities. Figuratively speaking, it covers the supply chain from goods purchasing to production (or to the inbound warehouse).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the required resources have arrived at their destination, they must be supplied to the right place within production in the right quantity and at the right time. This is the task of production logistics<\/strong><\/a>. It is therefore concerned with the provision of the required materials within the production process. It is therefore part of the intralogistics <\/strong>of a manufacturing company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Just-in-time and just-in-sequence in inbound logistics<\/h3>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/div>\r\n \n\n \r\n

The terms just-in-time and just-in-sequence<\/strong> are closely linked to inbound logistics. Essentially, both control concepts are about avoiding the aforementioned inbound warehouses. To this end, the required material may only be delivered at a specific time and only in the quantity required for production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the just-in-sequence<\/a> concept<\/strong>, there is another requirement in addition to those already mentioned: the material must also be delivered in the correct order. This places particularly high demands on inbound logistics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n \r\n

In practice, all the aspects mentioned so far must be considered as part of a larger, interrelated logistics process. A complete supply chain therefore always includes another element: outbound logistics<\/strong> or distribution logistics. It is the counterpart to inbound logistics and represents the route to the recipient or point of consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its aim is to deliver a company’s products to its customers <\/strong>as efficiently and reliably as possible. In other words, outbound logistics is about transportation away from the company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
