FTL transport – the right choice for efficient and secure deliveries

FTL is the abbreviation for ‘full truck load’ and refers to a type of transport in which a truck carries a single load and is thus fully utilised. The correct term for this process is ‘full truck load’. This full truck load is picked up at the sender’s premises or warehouse and transported to the destination warehouse or end customer. The entire loading space is used for this purpose.

The transport company therefore uses a complete means of transport exclusively for the delivery of this shipment to one recipient; no other loads are planned. Unlike less-than-truckload transports, there is no transhipment of goods or additional loads. Delays due to detours to other recipients can therefore be ruled out with FTL transports.

Definition: When is FTL transport the right choice?

If your freight volume fills the truck’s cargo space, FTL transport is the right choice for you. This is often the case with large shipments, which can include both large quantities of goods and individual items with large dimensions.

In addition, a full load makes sense if your goods are very sensitive or if avoiding transport with other goods is relevant for you for other reasons.

FTL transport as a logistics solution for full loads

With FTL transport, either individual orders or round trips can be carried out. With an individual order, you order a complete truck for a single shipment. A special form of FTL transport is the so-called round trip. This is a full load whose delivery triggers another order, such as the delivery of goods whose packaging is to be returned as part of empties management.
