Our responsibility towards the environment and resources

In our industry, which thrives on fast and reliable transport, there is a particularly great responsibility towards resources and the environment. The good thing is that there is also particularly great potential for change and optimization here. We make use of this potential.

We are aware of our great ecological responsibility and act accordingly: 

We make conscious and careful use of the resources available to us, such as fossil fuels. And we find environmentally friendly alternatives to them – such as renewable energies. For example, we already use 100% green electricity at all of the LGI Group’s German sites, are gradually converting our car fleet to electric vehicles, and are testing alternative fuels.

Wherever it is possible and makes sense, we use photovoltaic systems to generate energy efficiently. As a matter of principle, we build or lease new logistics properties taking into account aspects of sustainable, ecological and energy-conscious construction and equip them with modern, preferably energy-efficient technology. 
Thanks to our continuous improvement process, we are now also able to offer sustainable transport solutions and resource-efficient storage. Our objective is to continuously reduce LGI’s greenhouse gas emissions in order to ultimately achieve climate neutrality

  • Sustainability measures for services and products

    • Continuous expansion of our existing lifecycle management services
    • “ReuseIT” as all-inclusive services for used IT equipment incl. take-back/buy-back, technical refurbishment and resale for B2B and B2C
    • ReuseIT online shop for the sale of refurbished IT equipment
    • “Value Recovery” as a sustainable recycling service for used IT equipment – results in CO2 savings of more than 10,000 tons per year
    • CO2-neutralized air and sea freight transports

  • Sustainability measures for resource and waste management

    • Preferential use of used instead of new wooden pallets
    • Return of unusable pallets to manufacturers for use as a climate-neutral energy source in the production of new pallets
    • Continued improvement of waste recycling and disposal
    • Continuous sensitization of employees to the conscious use of resources, observance of waste separation, etc.

  • Sustainability measures for energy

    • Supply of all German sites of the LGI Group with 100 % green electricity from certified renewable energy sources – total saving of 7,200 tons of CO2 per year
    • Use of “green gas” at German locations with natural gas heating – total savings of 4,400 tonnes of CO2 per year
    • Significant reduction in electricity consumption through installation of LED lighting in our warehouses since 2017.
    • Use of so-called “Esavers” leads to more effective energy use, noticeable reduction in consumption and reduces electrical interference effects in the network (current smoothing)

  • Sustainability measures for vehicles

    • 99% of LGI trucks meet the highest Euro 6 standard for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
    • Investment in alternative forms of propulsion for heavy-duty vehicles
    • Successive conversion to e-car fleet with 100 % green electricity refueling

  • Sustainability measures for real estate and infrastructure

    • Installation and use of photovoltaic systems on suitable roof surfaces of our logistics properties.
    • 2021 Construction of the new LGI site in Dordrecht (Netherlands) in accordance with the latest standards for sustainable and energy-conscious construction and equipment with state-of-the-art technology such as wind turbines for self-sufficient energy generation and use.
    • 2022 Leased expansion of the Oberhausen site meets, among others, the requirements of the KfW building standard “Efficient House 40” – complete energy supply via photovoltaics
