Healthcare logistics with LGI
Every step must be executed perfectly, every shipment must be accurate: When it comes to the transport and storage of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory samples, there can be no compromises. Strict regulations, complex international supply chains, and the growing demand for temperature-controlled transport place high demands on the process. After all, what’s at stake is nothing less than the safety of highly sensitive high-tech devices and diagnostic systems – and thus people’s health. LGI understands these challenges and stands by your side as an experienced partner. With our comprehensive services, tailored solutions, and years of experience, we ensure that your product reaches its destination safely, in compliance with regulations, and reliably.
Medical products pose unique challenges because they are sensitive, life-saving capital goods. Expert healthcare logistics ensures that medical devices, in vitro diagnostics (IVD), analytical and laboratory equipment, reagents, test kits, calibrators, control materials, consumables, and other sensitive diagnostic and healthcare products are stored, transported, and distributed under strictly regulated conditions. The highest hygiene and safety standards, complete documentation, and strict compliance with legal requirements such as ISO 13485 or GDP are top priorities. Only in this way can product quality be maintained – and a safe supply to patients guaranteed at all times.
Logistics, quality, and supply chain management are closely intertwined in the healthcare sector. This ensures that diagnostic samples – such as water, urine, or blood samples – as well as reagents, test kits, control materials, laboratory and analytical instruments, and medical technology and surgical equipment can be stored and transported reliably and in compliance with regulations – always in accordance with applicable medical standards such as ISO 13485 or GDP.
This sensitive segment of healthcare logistics requires meticulously planned processes in which every step is executed flawlessly. The regulatory requirements for medical devices and healthcare products are stringent to ensure quality, efficacy, and integrity.
A key component is end-to-end cold chain management, which ensures the integrity of temperature-sensitive products from the time they are received until they reach the recipient. Similarly, handling biological samples and other critical materials requires specially trained staff, clearly defined processes, and the utmost care at every stage of the process.
In addition, healthcare logistics encompasses the secure storage and distribution of biomaterials, surgical sets, implants, and diagnostic and medical devices. Even complex capital goods such as MRI and CT systems, surgical microscopes, and ventilators must be reliably planned, transported, and integrated into the supply chain.
Specialized healthcare locations in Ketsch, Gomaringen, Erfurt, and Dordrecht, as well as the Dutch locations in Den Bosch, Ruurlo, Dordrecht, and Amsterdam, enable flexible logistics solutions that can be scaled across Europe. As a result, manufacturers, hospitals, and healthcare facilities benefit from high delivery capacity, quality-compliant processes, and consistently guaranteed product availability.
As experts in healthcare logistics, we manage your entire supply chain – efficiently, precisely, and tailored to the specific requirements of the healthcare industry. Whether it’s medical devices, replacement parts, lab samples, or consumables, we ensure that your products are transported safely and reliably.
A low ppm rate is a key quality indicator. At LGI, this is exactly where we focus our efforts – on effective quality management. Defects are not tolerated – our low ppm rates confirm this. Our meticulous care in the distribution of medical technology and medical devices is also reflected in our certifications and qualifications. Many of our customers in the healthcare industry have trusted us for years – because quality matters to them and is a given for us.
We think ahead: We tailor our logistics solutions and services precisely to your specific needs in the healthcare industry. As one of Europe’s leading providers of contract logistics, we offer you professional infrastructure and comprehensive expertise in transportation and distribution.
With our expertise in customs and foreign trade, as well as through the continuous improvement of our logistics processes via quality management and the integration of lean management, we’ve got your back at all times. We combine logistics expertise with technical service and support your equipment throughout its entire lifecycle – from installation and commissioning to maintenance.

And what if equipment needs to be replaced or returned? We handle that, too – including disassembly, packaging, return transport, and, upon request, reprocessing or disposal.
We rely on technical expertise, specialized teams, and a full-service package that’s thought through down to the last screw. From configuration and functional testing to on-site installation: Your medical technology is in the best hands with us – safe, reliable, and ready for use exactly when you need it.
This is part of our Technical Logistics business unit, which we operate for you throughout Europe.

Storage and transportation in the healthcare sector follow clear guidelines – and we take them seriously. Whether it’s ISO 13485 or GDP – the safe handling of your medical devices and in vitro diagnostic products is our top priority. Your medical devices are in the best hands with us – from control blood samples to analyzers and replacement parts, all the way to device-specific consumables.
Our commitment to quality is demonstrated by recognized certifications that confirm our work meets the highest standards:
In addition to healthcare, LGI provides specialized logistics services to seven other industries:
The supply chain in the medical technology sector encompasses all steps, from production supply through warehousing and distribution to reverse logistics. LGI manages this entire process for medical devices, replacement parts, and consumables – in accordance with strict standards such as ISO 13485 and GDP – to ensure that every product arrives safely and in compliance with regulations.
LGI provides test devices from medical device manufacturers throughout Europe, installs them at prospective customers’ sites or at trade shows, and picks them up again after the testing phase. A proprietary software solution checks availability in real time and enables direct booking. Learn more in our business case on demo pool management.
The ppm (parts per million) rate indicates how many out of one million processed shipments are defective—the lower the value, the more reliable the process. LGI consistently strives for low ppm rates in healthcare logistics as a measure of quality, because even minor errors involving medical devices can have serious consequences.
For healthcare logistics, ISO 13485 (quality management for medical devices) and GDP (Good Distribution Practice for pharmaceuticals) are particularly crucial. LGI supplements these with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and AEO customs certification, thereby providing comprehensive coverage of quality, the environment, information security, and customs clearance.
